Norman Chamber Endorses City of Norman’s Bond Proposals

on March 13, 2019

The Norman Chamber of Commerce board of directors voted Monday during  its March monthly board meeting to support the City of Norman’s “Vision for Norman” initiative, which will be on the April 2 ballot.

The initiative includes three propositions that address critical infrastructure and maintenance needs.

The transportation bond (Proposition 1) addresses road projects throughout Norman and leverages federal matching money on 13 projects, in addition to fast-tracking six projects. These 19 projects were selected from the city’s 2014 Comprehensive Transportation Plan, which was developed in collaboration with a 45-member citizens’ committee. A well-maintained transportation system is the backbone of a healthy economy, and these selected projects will play an important role in job retention and creation.

The citizens stormwater committee has worked for more than a year to help the council develop solutions to address Norman’s stormwater infrastructure and maintenance needs. They worked hard to bring equity to the stormwater utility proposal (Proposition 3), while selecting the most critical projects from the City’s 2009 Storm Water Master Plan that make up the stormwater bond (Proposition 2).

The Chamber Board encourages its members and all Norman voters to vote “Yes” on all three issues on April 2.
