Weather

Norman is home of the Oklahoma Weather Center, a unique partnership of five National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) organizations and weather organizations from the University of Oklahoma, that work together in partnership to foster understanding of atmospheric conditions.

In November 2002, NOAA officials and representatives from the university broke ground for a new building on the University’s Research Campus-South. The new building will be one of the largest research centers in the world and the premier facility for severe storm research, prediction, forecasting and warning. The 244,000-square-foot building, scheduled to open in 2006, will allow federal scientists and university scientists to work together under one roof, sharing equipment and ideas. The new facility will further solidify Norman’s importance to the worldwide weather community.
