2011-12 Military Affairs Committee Goals

Continue the cooperative relationship between Norman and Tinker Air Force Base

• Participate in NCO awards with awards with a sponsorship base of 15 local businesses with attendance from other committee members, executive committee members, board of directors, and staff
• Continue membership in Tinker Leadership program.
• Provide Norman Community information to the family support center.
• Attend special events and ceremonies as appropriate.
• Coordinate tours of facilities at Tinker AFB as available.
• Explore opportunities for participation in events at Tinker including Retiree Appreciation Day.

Support the OU ROTC Programs.

• Sponsor and obtain sponsorship for the annual OU ROTC Awards Ceremony.
• Attend special events and ceremonies.
• Support ROTC coordinated special events and fundraising activities.
• Encourage participation of ROTC programs through quarterly cadet/midshipmen presentations at committee meetings.

Promote Norman to the Military population as a desirable place to live, retire, visit and shop.

• Attend relocation fairs as needed
• Increase support to Reserves and National Guard in the Norman Community.
• Encourage local civic clubs to invite guest speakers from Tinker Air Force Base, OU ROTC programs, Reserve and National Guard units, Ft. Sill and Civil Air Patrol.
• Recognition of Veterans for Veteran’s Day.
