Chamber Endorses Step Up Oklahoma Planon
The Norman Chamber’s Board of Directors recently voted to endorse a proposed plan to address state revenue, reform government to increase efficiency, and provide a $5,000 pay raise to our states well-deserving teaching professionals. The plan was developed by Step Up Oklahoma, a nonpartisan group of business, civic, and community leaders who desire to find meaningful solutions to the state’s short- and long-term challenges.
“Our state has languished in recent years due to revenue shortfalls and bureaucratic inefficiencies that have stifled economic prosperity and growth”, said Scott Martin, Norman Chamber of Commerce President/CEO. “Broad based reform is desperately needed throughout state government, including how we fund critical state services. I applaud Step Up Oklahoma for their willingness to develop a diverse plan. If our Governor and state legislators embrace this plan, they will take a significant step toward repositioning Oklahoma for greatness. Now, more than ever, politics must take a backseat to the real issues facing our state. Oklahomans are seeking leadership from our state capitol and this plan provides a blueprint that, if adopted, will make a truly significant, positive impact.”
Martin further stated, “Individuals, families, and businesses are searching for answers. We need common sense reforms that empower people and encourage job growth. The Step Up Oklahoma Plan addresses our revenue shortages and the strategic structural shortfalls that are holding our state and its citizens back from realizing their true potential.”
