The City of Norman employs approximately 725 full-time workers who provide numerous city services that are essential to maintaining a quality community, including police, fire, sanitation, water, wastewater, and street maintenance. In addition to these basic services, Norman’s municipal government strives to preserve an exceptional feel of customer service by providing a current and informational website, quarterly newsletters, public access TV, and a one-stop shop for questions and concerns—The Action Center. Norman welcomes citizen involvement and encourages people to become engaged in their government and take an active role in shaping Norman’s future.

LINK Norman is a citizens’ organization whose mission is to make Norman a better place to live, work, raise a family, and enjoy life. It accomplishes this mission by “linking” citizens and groups for the purpose of facilitating communication, educating the community through conferences and forums, researching issues and creating initiatives to enhance citizen involvement, and working to develop partnerships and collaborations. As the “champion of community dialogue,” LINK Norman works to build relationships and create a better Norman. Call 447-8448 to be a member of the LINK Norman team.

The Norman Community Foundation is one of more than 600 community foundations around the country which share the common purpose of promoting the well-being of the communities they serve. The foundation provides a bridge between individuals, families, and businesses wishing to take responsibility for humankind’s greater good through charitable giving and those organizations that can most effectively realize that good. By applying professional training, knowledge, and experience, the foundation helps donors efficiently accomplish their philanthropic dreams. By providing grants from funds established by donors, the foundation supports non-profit agencies, schools, and other groups, striving to improve the quality of life for all.

The Norman Convention & Visitors Bureau (NCVB) is a full-service bureau with experienced staff members that are eager to attract and provide services for meetings, group tours, athletic events, reunions and travelers from around the world. Tourists will find a wealth of information when they phone the office or visit the NCVB’s website, www.visitnorman.com. The NCVB also provides marketing assistance to local festivals and events. Finally, the NCVB provides event planning assistance to groups from across the country. Planners can contact the NCVB for personalized assistance with services such as securing hotel rooms, gathering items for “goodie bags,” and acquiring welcome letters from local officials.

Since 1958, the United Way of Norman has worked hard to help those in need of assistance through community support of volunteers and contributors. Its mission is “to increase the organized capacity for people to care for one another.” There are 31 agencies affiliated with United Way of Norman. These agencies are yet another part of the Norman community that makes it a unique and caring place to live.
