| The Chamber Business Development Committee Announces the 2nd Annual Anti-Cyber Monday EventThe Monday following Thanksgiving is traditionally a huge online shopping day.In 2010, comScore reported that U.S.consumers spent $1,028M online on Cyber Monday (excluding travel), up 16 percent versus a year ago, representing the heaviest online spending day in history and the first to surpass the billion-dollar threshold.
The Chamber’s Business Development Committee would like to keep Norman’s share of that business local and keep the tax dollars in our own community. These tax dollars help support police and fire protection, street maintenance, storm drainage, traffic control, parks, bicycle trails and recreational facility maintenance to name a few. The committee is asking local businesses to offer some type of discount, special product or service that will be at least equivalent to or greater than the sales tax some consumers would be saving if shopping online. This will entice customers to shop in your store on Monday and will possibly earn you a lifetime customer. A full list of participating businesses and their discounts will be listed on the Chamber website starting Monday, Nov 21 as well as the Chamber Facebook page.
